The Sears Craftsman line of garage door openers was one of the iconic brands of the late 1980’s and much of the 1990’s. Many of the door openers of this time period used the Sears Craftsman 139.53778 remote control, this popular remote control could handle up to 3 different garage door openers motors that worked with the 9 trinary dip switch system commonly used in the early days of remote garage door control.
Now that this unit has long been discontinued by Sears, Door Openers and More is pleased to offer a single button replacement remote control from Transmitter Solutions for the timeless 139.53778 unit.
Where many of our customers run into trouble is programming their new single button remote control using the old 3 button unit, but with a simple programming adjustment headaches become high fives. They key to this process is knowing that with the old Sears Craftsman Remote the 1st dip switch is hard coded to be dependent on which button on the old remote you press. This explains how, with one set of dip switches you were able to control multiple garage door openers.
Step 1 – To program your new single button remote control using the old 3 button Sears unit you will need to set the 1st dip switch on your new remote to correspond to the image below.
Step 2 – Now all you’ll need to do is match the dip switches 2-9 from the battery compartment of your old remote just as they are set now into the new unit. Make sure you notice that there are 3 possible dip switch positions Up (Labeled +), Middle (0) and Down (-)
Step 3 – Press the button on your new remote and your garage door should now go up and down with the new unit.
